Team Freek Wagenaar 1st National Champion Youngbirds not nominated 2020 mainly due to Eijerkamp pigeons

Behind the name Freek Wagenaar, Voorst, there is a team made up of several fanciers. One member is his childhood friend, Rinie Vos, who never misses a race and usually is the first to spot a pigeon coming down. Jaap Hupkes is another pigeon friend,  he is a regular almost always present to see the arrival of the pigeons, provided that his work and care of the farm allow it. Albert Hendirksen, Oude Vorstenaar, takes care of the pedigrees and the website, and Bram Scherpenzeel from Twello supplies a good number of youngsters every year. Gerard from Wijchen takes care of the breeders.
Mother Toos (almost 91 years old is always present and is a loyal supporter) and Freeks’ partner José should not go unmentioned. The daily care of the pigeons is Freek’s contribution to the team.
They had an excellent flying season this past summer. After a tough start, the youngsters got in the groove and got better and better. At the end of the schedule, they were:

  • 1st undesignated National Champion Young Pigeons
  • 1st undesignated Champion Young Pigeons Kring 6, Region North East Section 8
  • 1st undesignated Champion Young Birds Region North East Section 8
  • 1st undesignated Champion Young Birds Section 8 in the entire Section 8 (give or take about 1,900 fanciers).

On the natour (old and young birds flew together) they continued racing their young birds, and this resulted in:

  • 1st undesignated Champion Natoer Kring 6, Region North East Section 8
  • 1st undesignated Champion Natoer Region North East Section 8 GPI
  • 4 undesignated Champion Natoer Section 8

It is fantastic that in his seven best youngsters the noble  blood of the Eijerkamp-pigeons is always richly represented!
The most eye-catching pigeons were the nest brother NL20-1244457 and NL20-1222258
Both nest brothers were bred by teammate Bram Scherpenzeel from Twello. On March 5, 2020, Bram delivered a total of 51 youngsters.  Due to severe allergy to a protein in pigeon manure (since 1982), Freek only races the young birds, from March to September. During this period, he always wears a pressure helmet and protective clothing when he is with the pigeons.  During the winter months the pigeon lofts remain empty.

The ancestry of the nest brothers of 457 and 458:

Team Wagenaar would like to take this opportunity to thank the Eijerkamp family for the enjoyable contact we have had with them over the decades, their trust, and the good pigeons. At the end of the journey, it is still the better pigeons that win the championships.
Closing
In the 7-best youngster of the Team Wagenaar 2020 there is one always one truth. Sometimes they are bred in the breeding loft in Wijchen, sometimes they are bred by Bram Scherpenzeel in Twello and sometimes they are born at the "Greenfield Stud" in Cortenoever/Brummen. The common thread? Eijerkamp!!! Sometimes straight, sometimes crossed, but always the Eijerkamp name appears in the pedigree. Honor given to those deserving it!
