A tough race with a strong northeast wind and temperatures up to 26°C posed a challenge for the old pigeons and especially for the youngsters as they were not used to these weather conditions.

In a breathtaking display of dominance, the Eijerkamp-Paalman partnership once again made headlines on the weekend of August 18th, delivering an extraordinary performance that left the competition in the dust. Against a field of 14,594 pigeons in Amalgamation 9, they claimed the top 9 positions, a feat that is nothing short of remarkable. The race, which began in Bierges (205.751 km) under the challenge of a fierce northeast headwind, seemed destined for excitement. As the first announcements trickled in from the shortest distances, Arnold calculated that he needed to clock 10 minutes before noon. Then, in a moment of sheer anticipation, a small group of pigeons appeared over the house. Two young birds from the nest clocked in as the first and second pigeon, with 7 experienced racers just seconds behind. The rest of the pigeons followed in quick succession, delivering a steady and fast finish.

The result ....... an astonishing 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-15-16-17-19-22-24-25-26-27 etc. against 14,594 pigeons with 108 prizecards out of the 174 pigeons entered with 9x prizes 1:1000, 38x prizes 1:100 and 74x prizes 1:10

In this article, we cover the young pigeons race from Roye, a location slightly more to the west than usual. The decision to use a more westerly release point was made due to concerns that weather conditions further east could create difficulties during the release.

The wind was light from the northwest, providing a slight advantage given the westerly release location.
Here’s how our teams were represented:

With a total of 110 pigeons entered, we anticipated a challenging but fair race. The light NW wind, combined with the strategic choice of a western release, offered the pigeons a better chance to navigate the course successfully. We look forward to seeing how our young pigeons handled the conditions and what this race reveals about their potential in the upcoming challenges.

The race from Melun, France (455 km), was initially scheduled for Saturday but was postponed to Sunday due to rain in France.

The mid-distance race from Melun, France, presented unique challenges this weekend. With the strong southwest tailwind, high speeds were anticipated, but rain in France caused a delay in the release of the pigeons. 

Despite these conditions, both Hans and Evert Jan Eijerkamp, along with Lotte Eijerkamp, entered a total of 80 pigeons. Hans and Evert Jan contributed 45 pigeons, while Lotte entered 35 pigeons.
 
We eagerly await the results as the pigeons embark on their journey back home, hoping for another series of impressive performances despite the initial delay. Stay tuned for updates on arrivals and placements as the race unfolds.

Initially, the intention was to release the pigeons in Mettet (226km), but there appeared to be insufficient space at the release site for 5 trailers, so they continued on to Chimay.
The weather looked good, with partly cloudy skies, a weak south to southeast wind, and temperatures rising to 16 degrees Celsius.
We have 103 pigeons basketed, 61 belonging to Hans and Evert Jan, and 52 belonging to Lotte Eijerkamp.

Today marks the final race for the old pigeons, the National flight from Issoudun. Nearly 17,000 pigeons are participating in this prestigious event, making it one of the most anticipated races of the season.

The weather conditions are promising, with a favorable southwest wind prevailing over much of the course. This should make the challenge achievable for most of the pigeons, allowing them to perform at their best.
