This past Saturday, May 5, 2018, the North Road R.P.A flew the first old bird race of the season from Huntsville 289 km from my loft.
It was partly cloudy at 7:30 when the birds were let up, the wind was light out of the SW, and the temperature was only 7C. It promised to be a grueling day as the pigeons had to fly into a side headwind all the way home.
Waiting patiently for the pigeons to arrive, I just about dropped my coffee cup when I saw 6 pigeons together right out of the hole. No victory laps, they went right to the landing board and all 6 trapped in 4 seconds.
After the clocks were taken off, we ended up with the first 12 in the Hamilton Central R.P.C. against 10 lofts and 244 birds placing 17 of the 30 birds shipped in top 10% and 23 in the top 20%.
In the Hamilton Federation (3 clubs) flying against 25 lofts and 536 birds we had the first 7 prizes and placed 19 in the top 10% and 25 in the first 20%.
In the North Road RPA (6 clubs) flying against 51 lofts and 1,086 pigeons, we placed
- 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 11, 13, 14, 18, 19 etc. and we placed 19 pigeons in the top 10% and 25 in the top 20%.
A very satisfying race as we are the longest and most westerly loft in the combine.

The first bird clocked was CU16 11926 his father is CU14 HC 1063 (a son of "Havana" NL12-1232006 NL12-1232006, a double grandson of Ché "Ché" and his mother is NL09-1186640 "Magic Sola" a direct Verkerk hen.)
His dam is CU15 HC 759 out of Verkerk and Koopman lines.

The second bird clocked 2 seconds behind was CU16 11932 a cock whose father is CU15 HC 767 out of NL14-1605516 NL14-1605516 (out of NL07-1371015 NL07-1371015 "Fabio Favourite" x NL09-1837618 NL09-1837618 Cilia "Cilia") X NL09-1186440 "Magic Sola" a Verkerk.
His mother is CU15 HC 755 out of Havana NL12-1232006 NL12-1232006 and NL10-1681766 a Verkerk. "755" was lost in a race but two of her sisters "756" and "757" both flew Hearst (800 km) and placed near the top.

The third pigeon was a hen CU17 17355 a daughter of "Havana" NL12-1232006 NL12-1232006 a direct H. and E.J. Eijerkamp pigeon a son of Carlos "Carlos" and Lieke "Lieke" both of whom are out of Ché "Ché". Her mother is "Detroit’s Lady" NL14-1605572 NL14-1605572 a direct H. and E.J. Eijerkamp out of "Detroit" NL10-1271274 NL10-1271274 (out of Streetfighter "Streetfighter" and Kentucky "Kentucky") and NL12-1233749 NL12-1233749 "Dtr Lady Elenora" (out of "Inbred Pegasus" and Lady Elanora "Lady Elanora").

Descendants of "Havana" NL12-1232006 NL12-1232006 have done very well for us. The race team is made off more than 60% daughters sons and grandchildren of "Havana" and last year 2017, earned the North Road loft championship with a total of 12,314 points almost 3,000 points ahead of the second loft.
To say that the Eijerkamp pigeons have done well for us is an understatement, they have been excellent.

Nick and Enna on the last OB race of the 2016 season, had a fantastic race, placing:
- 1^st, 3^rd, 6^th, 7^th against 143 birds, Hearst 800 km in the Hamilton Central Club and also
  1^st, 3^rd, 6^th, 7th against 211 birds, Hearst 800 km in the Hamilton Federation and also
  1^st, 3^rd, 6^th, 7^th against 356 birds Hearst 800 km in the North Road RPA
The 1^st place pigeon was CU14 HC 1055 a cock, who has as his father, CU12 O&L 1220 an Eijerkamp-van Loon via Oscar and Linda Devries. His mother is out of a direct Eijerkamp pigeon, NL11-1341903 NL11-1341903 a Heremans-Ceusters out of the Euro "Euro", Jackpot "Jackpot" and Olympiade "Olympiade" lines

The 3^rd place winner was a yearling hen, CU15 HC 756. Her father is "Havana" NL12-1232006 NL12-1232006 a direct Eijerkamp pigeon, whose father is Carlos "Carlos" (out of Ché "Ché" x Tara "Tara"), "Havana" has as his mother "Lieke" (out of Ché "Ché" x Madam Harry "Madam Harry"). The "756" has NL10-1681766 a Verkerk hen as her mother.

The 6^th and 7^th place pigeons CU14 HC 1080 and CU14 HC 1081 are nest mates. Their father is a direct Eijerkamp pigeon, NL11-1343631 NL11-1343631 a Heremans-Ceusters and their mother is CU13-30082 bred out of NL12-1232006 NL12-1232006 "Havana" a direct Eijerkamp pigeon, whose father is Carlos "Carlos" (out of Ché "Ché" x Tara "Tara"), "Havana" has as his mother "Lieke" (out of Ché "Ché" x Madam Harry "Madam Harry"), "Havana" was paired to NL11-1344256 NL11-1344256 a Heremans-Ceusters (granddaughter Jackpot "Jackpot").

It was certainly satisfying, to see how well the Heremans-Ceusters lines performed at the long end races, it shows what good pigeons in good condition are capable off.

Nick and his wife Enna race pigeons from just outside of Delhi, Ontario Canada.
Nick is a member of and race secretary for, the Hamilton Central RPC. The North Road Racing Pigeon Ass. (NRPA) is made up of seven clubs who fly from race stations located in northern Ont.
Several years ago they began acquiring Eijerkamp pigeons through Oscar Devries and from sales held by Hans and Evert-Jan Eijerkamp here in Canada. More Eijerkamp birds were purchased from their web shop and other birds picked and sent by Henk Jurriëns.
Nick and Enna now fly predominately (85-90%) Hans and Evert Jan Eijerkamp pigeons, both Eijerkamp-van Loon and Heremans-Ceusters.

Success has followed and now has resulted in a fantastic young bird season.

Week 1
- 1st through 8th North Bay 391 km against 1137 pigeons in the NRPA
  1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 11, 12, 16, 18, 20 etc. 15 of 25 shipped in the top 10%

Her mother is NL09-1186440 a very good breeding hen, from Bas and Gerard Verkerk.

3rd in the clock was 13CU 30017 a cheque hen, is a full sister to "061" above, who has as her father 11 CU O&L 11717 bred by Oscar and Linda Devries, a Heremans-Ceusters out of NL09-1835082 NL09-1835082 Hans and Evert-Jan Eijerkamp and NL09-2095656 NL09-2095656 a daughter of BELG07-6367873 BELG07-6367873 Sanne "Sanne". Her mother is NL09-1186440 a very good breeding hen, from Bas and Gerard Verkerk.

Week 3

This week the first drop was unbelievable, 14 of the 25 birds shipped home together flying 502 km and clocked in 15 seconds. They raced right through the trap!
- 1st through 14th Latchford 502 km against 1,012 pigeons in the NRPA
  1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 25, 26, 27, 34 etc. 20 of the 25 birds shipped flew in the top 10%.
1st in the clock was 13CU 30014 a cheque cock, having as his father NL11-1343631 NL11-1343631 an Eijerkamp-Heremans-Ceusters (grandson Euro "Euro") and having as his mother NL10-1273675 NL10-1273675 an Eijerkamp-van Loon "Paula" (granddaughter Don Leo "Don Leo")

2nd was 13CU 30038 a full sibling of the first bird "014", having as his father NL11-1343631 NL11-1343631 an Eijerkamp-Heremans-Ceusters (grandson Euro "Euro") and having as his mother NL10-1273675 NL10-1273675 an Eijerkamp-van Loon "Paula" (granddaughter Don Leo "Don Leo")
- In the first North Bay "038" won second prize!!
20 of the 25 birds shipped to this race flew in the top 10% of the birds entered!!!!

To say that Nick and Enna are happy with Hans and Evert Jan Eijerkamp pigeons would be an understatement. They are thrilled!
